My name is Donna Giard. I am a certified Laura Heine Collage Instructor.
I also own and manage storage units with my brothers. I am married to Geoff (also known as Saint Geoff). a grown daughter, Kelly, and I’m a stepmom and grandmother. We also moved in with my elderly parents who are 87 and 90! There’s never a dull moment! Oh and let’s not forget my two standard poodles Maxx and Jelly. Besides quilting I have beautiful perineal gardens and I knit.
I started applique quilting in my senior year of high school with the Sun Bonnet Sue pattern, I have also made traditional quilts and own a longarm as well.
I fell in love with Laura Heine designs about 2 years ago. My first collage was self-taught as I couldn’t find any classes in my area. I chose “The Dress” for my first collage and I was completely hooked from then on.
I had the opportunity to be sponsored by Bits n Pieces quilt shop to go to Billings Montana in June of 2019 to be certified. What a dream come true!
Laura Heine is one of the kindest women I know sharing her beautiful art of collaging. She warmly welcomed us into her studio and shared all her tips and tricks to be successful and knowledgeable teachers.
I found my niche in collage quilting and enjoy sharing this technique with others. I’m warning you it’s extremely addicting. There is no end to what you can do. Collage quilting has been my go-to for comfort, healing and relaxation, it offers me a creative outlet and stress release as I totally get lost in my projects.
I’m so looking forward to sharing my love of all things Laura Heine with you. I sincerely hope you too enjoy collage quilting as much as I do.
We are so excited to have her come to teach on Saturday May 22nd, 9:30-3:30p. She will be teaching the Vino Collage that is pictured here and it measures out to be 13.5 x 24.5. This class is for ALL levels and no sewing machine is needed!
Cost: $55 for the class, registration required.
$25 for the pattern, $30 for the fabric kit.
We have had many students ask "what level am I at?" or "Do you think I am ready to take that class?"
So, we listened, and we have added "Levels" to our classes so that it will be easier to find a class that works for you. We want you to have fun, enjoy your class and feel successful. We hope these levels will make it easier to register for classes.
Level I: No experience needed, brand new at sewing or quilting and eager to learn! This student could also have some sewing experience, but not with quilting. This student may have made one quilt, self-taught but would benefit from formal class instructions.
Level II: Student has taken at least one beginner quilt class or has made at least two quilts, self-taught and is looking to learn something new.
Level III: Student has taken quilting classes, small project classes, very familiar with quilting techniques, has made several quilts.
Level IV: Very seasoned quilter (too many to count) and is looking for advanced skill or new techniques.
**Please note that this is simply a guide and a suggestion. Please feel free to inquire about a class, if you are still unsure. We are careful to think of each student individually and we will find a class that's right for you!
