I starting sewing at the age of 9 sitting on a blanket in the front yard with a pile of fabric scraps and a needle and thread I borrowed from my mother’s sewing basket. Barbie was about to get a new wardrobe! Shortly after, I was gifted my first sewing machine; it was a birthday gift from my grandmother. For the next several years I was happily sewing clothing, graduating from Barbie clothes to my own clothes. Then when I got married and had children I sewed all their clothes, curtains, pillows and many other household items. It was a very natural thing for me to see a McCall’s quilt pattern in the fabric store and decide to make it for my parents 25th Anniversary. Little did I know, that was the start of a lifelong passion for quilting! I have been quilting for over 40 years and have taught quilting for the past 23 years. When I am not quilting (a rare occurrence) I truly enjoy traveling all over the country, and I have visited ALL 50 states! I enjoy spending time with my children, grandsons and 2 new great-grandchildren! I am thrilled to own a business with my daughter and fulfilling a dream to own a Quilting Studio!
I grew up watching my mother sewing and spent countless hours in her sewing room. She made us kids everything from Halloween costumes, baby doll clothes and later on prom and wedding dresses! When I was a little girl, my mom taught me how to do crossstitch, do embroidery and even convinced me to try my hand at quilting. I now officially declare myself a collector of Halloween fabric! The last 4 years in business with my mom have been a blast and I look forward to what the future has in store for our small business.
I married Kevin, the "Sewing Machine Repair Guy" last year and we enjoy spending time together on the golf course, traveling or spending time designing, building and decorating for Halloween, my favorite holiday!
I look forward to getting to know all of you, too!
I love to work on mechanical things and am happy to join the Night Owl Team as the "Sewing Machine Repair Guy". I look forward to working with all of you and your machines for years to come!
When I am not working on machines, you will find me out on the golf course all summer. In the Fall you will find me slaving away making all the Halloween decorations Paula dreams up!
Marjie found a love for sewing as a child when she took her first Home Economics class and bought her very own sewing machine in the 8th grade! She first enjoyed making herself clothes and also her children’s theater costumes.
Her sister-in-law is the one that introduced her to quilting and taught her how. She has been a member of the Amoskeag Quilters Guild for many years.
Barbara found the joy of quilting last year when she signed up for her first official beginner class and has been hooked ever since. In fact, this has led to her other hobby of collecting vintage sewing machines…(ask her how many when you meet her!) She has also been an active member of our volunteer group.
We are very excited to have Barbara and her e-commerce expertise on our growing team!
